The galvanic corrosion that occurs in steel reinforcements in concrete structures is a sort of galvanic cell formation that occurs as a result of number of electrochemical reactions. By measuring the values such as electrochemical potentials of the steel reinforcement and the conductivity of the concrete cover, the presence of corrosion activity can be determined before any serious damage occurs and a profile can be easily created for the future of the structure by calculating the corrosion rate that causes possible annual diameter losses in the reinforcement.
